The Speeding Trees mean hard rock. Our goal is to put on a show that is fun, energetic, sweaty, passionate, hilarious, and leaves the crowd grinning.
Original material with a new edge has been the mission for members Jon Fotis (guitar) and David J Murphy (bass, lead vocals) since early 2000. Six years working together, in Fairfield, Iowa, doing home-studio recording and musical experimentation, has matured our musical perspective to the point where we were able to hit the Reset button on Rock-and-Roll, suddenly pouring out fun, hard-hitting songs that are both zany and true to life in their storytelling nature.
Guitarist Eric Sanderson joined the band in November 2006, after fate sent him literally knocking on our door. “I heard you guys rehearsing from two blocks away,” he said. “I wanted to see if you want to start a band!”
Three men strong, and in need of a drummer, we called up Shaan Oberdieck. He gladly joined forces, and The Speeding Trees became an official, gigging, four-man lineup in May 2007.
For close to a year we ravaged southeast Iowa with hilarious and ballsy hard rock, which was insanely fun and full of great experiences. In January '08, band and drummer parted ways. In the resulting band meeting, we decided to scale back to the original duo for the time being, for the purpose of songwriting, and finishing the album we started before more members arrived (which we had no qualms about putting on hold for the sake of playing gigs).
Soon we'll be back to playing live, likely with Eric back on the guns for shows -- hard rocking (and heavy lifting) for all! The feedback from audience members has been tremendously positive. “I haven't seen a band that good and fun in a LONG time. You're different, and I love different,” is the common response to our concluded performance.
The future holds greater adventures and wild success.
We love to give. People love to receive, and give back.
We are The Speeding Trees.
